The day my mother died, the sky was an intense, cloudless cerulean blue.
April 7, 2010. It was one of the first clear days of the season. That color has
taken on metaphoric power for me on many levels. It is at once uplifting,
transformative and eternal, and connects me with nature on a primal level.
As background, it becomes a key component of the subject, above the gravity
that eventually claims our physical nature.
